What is a divan bed?
A divan bed is made up of two parts. The mattress and base are designed to work together to provide the consumer with a comfortable night's sleep.

Can I put an old mattress on a new divan base?
Divan beds typically come with a new mattress as part of a set, however, you can buy a divan base separately if you choose to and pair this with a mattress of your choice. Our bed experts are on hand to guide you and help ensure you receive the comfort and feel you are looking for as different pairings result in different effects being achieved.
Is the headboard included?
Some sets come complete with the headboard. For those options that do not include a headboard as part of the package, we have many options available meaning you can choose a headboard to suit your taste and bedroom décor.
Do they break easily?
Like all products, if not cared for properly, it might break. Divans in the lower price range may break more easily, while higher end products should last for several years.
Do all offer the same firmness levels?
No, we have a range of tensions including: Soft, Soft Medium, Medium, Medium Firm, Firm, and Extra Firm. Sleepers weighing below 14 stone can opt for softer options, while side sleepers over fourteen stone should consider a medium firm comfort. Sleepers weighing more than fourteen stone should opt for a firm or very firm mattress to prevent their spine sinking into the mattress adding extra pressure and causing back problems.
What storage options are available?
You can choose from no storage, two drawers or four drawers. If choosing two drawers, the layout is customisable with the possibility of having two drawers on one side or two drawers on the same side of the base. Continental drawers (2 large and 2 small drawers) are an excellent choice for those whose bed is hemmed in by other bedside furniture.
What is the difference between a divan and an ottoman?
Put simply, the main difference is the storage location and size. Divan beds typically include under bed drawers alongside the side, head, or foot end of the bed while an ottoman bed uses a hydraulics system to raise the mattress to reveal full bed size storage inside the bed base.
How often should I replace my divan?
The longevity of any bed will depend on several factors. Most mattresses are replaced every 8 years, meaning the base is often just as old and has been subject to the same traumas. If possible, we recommend buying a new bed every 7 years or sooner if needed.
How do I care for my divan bed?
To ensure its longevity, it is important to care for your investment. We recommend periodically checking that all screws, and feet are secure. It is important not to overload the drawers as this will lead to damage to the bases. The drawers are only designed to house lightweight items. (Standard drawers can withstand weights to approximately 20kg/44lbs/3.14 stone per drawer while Continental drawers can hold 7kg/15lbs/1.10stone per drawer.) We strongly recommend using a mattress protector to enhance the life of your mattress.
Do divan beds have feet?
They typically come with one of three feet: *Legs: fixed to the bottom of your divan base, legs are an excellent choice for those looking to store small items underneath the bed rather than in drawers. (Drawers are not available on divan beds with legs.) This type of leg suits houses with smooth floors. *Castors: small wheels that are fixed to the bottom of the divan base to help easy moving across the room. This type of leg is best suited to carpeted floors. *Glides: offering an alternative to the castor wheel, glides are sturdy flat feet that are fixed to the bottom of your divan base to aid with moving your bed. They are ideal for carpeted and smooth floored rooms.
How can I dispose of my old bed?
At Land of Beds, we offer a removal and recycle service. All we ask is that your old bed has been dismantled and is ready for removal, we will then do the rest!
