Worth Knowing
Grey Velvet Upholstery
What it is: Two complementary grey velvet fabrics - a smooth velvet on the frame and a textured velvet on the headboard panel.
How it helps you: The contrast in texture adds visual depth without introducing another colour, making the bed easy to style in a wide range of bedroom schemes.
Oversized Padded Headboard
What it is: A generously sized, plain padded headboard covered in textured grey velvet, standing 110cm tall.
How it helps you: The height and padding give you a comfortable surface to lean against, so reading, watching television or sitting up with a morning cup of tea feels relaxed rather than awkward.
Wooden Slatted Base
What it is: A slatted base made from wooden slats that supports the mattress from below, with slats spaced 6cm apart.
How it helps you: Allows air to circulate freely beneath the mattress, helping it breathe and regulate temperature for a more comfortable night's sleep.
Centre Support Rail
What it is: A support rail running down the middle of the frame beneath the slats.
How it helps you: Spreads weight across the full width of the bed, helping the slats stay level and the frame keep its shape over time.
Dark Wood Legs
What it is: Dark-stained wooden legs fitted beneath the frame, giving 13cm of clearance between the frame and the floor.
How it helps you: The dark wood contrasts with the grey velvet for a furniture-quality finish, and the raised height keeps the bed looking light in the room while making it easier to clean underneath.

Vs divan beds: Bed frames sit on legs and allow air to move beneath the mattress, helping it stay fresh over time. Divan sets sit closer to the floor and usually come as a matched base and mattress. A frame like the Fernleigh offers more style variety and a lighter look in the room, while divan sets give a more integrated finish and often include built-in storage.
Vs wooden and metal frames: Upholstered frames are softer to touch and more comfortable to lean against, which makes a real difference when sitting up in bed. Wooden frames bring a warmer, natural material feel, and metal frames suit industrial or minimalist rooms. Velvet does need more care to keep clean than wood or metal, which is worth bearing in mind in busy households.
Vs other frames in the range: Within the Land of Beds fabric bed frame range, the Fernleigh stands out for its oversized headboard and two-texture velvet finish, giving a more tailored look than a standard padded frame. If under-bed storage is a priority, ottoman beds and bed frames with drawers are worth exploring instead.
SMETA (Sedex Members Ethical Trade Audit) - An internationally recognised ethical trade audit confirming the Fernleigh is manufactured under fair working conditions, with responsible labour and environmental practices throughout the supply chain.
FSC Certified Wood - Forest Stewardship Council certification confirms the timber used in this bed frame comes from responsibly managed forests, so you can buy with confidence that it has been sourced without contributing to deforestation.
The Fernleigh Grey Fabric pairs an oversized padded headboard with a two-texture grey velvet finish and dark wood legs - a contemporary, design-led bed frame for anyone who wants comfort to sit up against and a well-ventilated wooden slatted base beneath the mattress. Available in Double and King Size with free UK delivery.
