Worth Knowing
Chipboard Frame with Grey Oak Effect Finish
What it is: A bunk bed frame made from chipboard with a grey oak effect finish, with panelled sides and end boards.
How it helps you: Delivers the look of natural wood at an accessible price point, and the smooth panelled finish is easy to wipe clean.
Wooden Slatted Base
What it is: A slatted wooden base supporting the mattress on each bunk.
How it helps you: Allows air to circulate beneath the mattress, helping it breathe for a more comfortable sleep.
Ladder with Cut-Out Handles
What it is: A fixed, angled ladder with shaped cut-out grip handles and wide, flat steps.
How it helps you: Makes climbing up and down safer and easier, especially for children, and the angled design with wide steps is easier to climb than a vertical ladder.
Glow-in-the-Dark Ladder Strips
What it is: Stick-on glow-in-the-dark strips applied to the ladder steps.
How it helps you: Helps children locate the ladder safely in the dark without turning on the main light and disturbing anyone else in the room.
Top Bunk Guard Rails
What it is: A panelled guard rail along the open side of the top bunk with cut-out hand grips, with an opening beside the ladder, and a high shelving panel along the wall side.
How it helps you: Helps prevent the sleeper from rolling out during the night - the rails are designed to be used with a mattress no deeper than 18cm, which keeps the effective rail height within the safety specification.
Built-In Shelves
What it is: Shelves integrated into the frame, running along the wall side of both the top and bottom bunks.
How it helps you: Keeps books, toys, and bedtime essentials within easy reach without needing extra furniture.
Under-Bed Storage Drawer
What it is: A pull-out drawer built into the base beneath the lower bunk.
How it helps you: Makes use of the space beneath the lower bunk for spare bedding, clothes or toys, keeping the rest of the room clearer.

Vs mid sleepers: A mid sleeper has an elevated single bunk with usable space beneath - usually a desk, pull-out bed, or storage - but sleeps only one child. A bunk bed sleeps two in a similar vertical footprint. If you need to sleep two children in one room, a bunk bed is the more space-efficient choice. If you need a workstation or play area beneath the bed for one child, a mid sleeper is the better fit.
Vs high sleepers: A high sleeper raises a single bed to a greater height than a mid sleeper, with a full workstation, sofa, or wardrobe underneath. It sleeps one child and suits teenagers who want a dedicated study or lounge space. A bunk bed prioritises sleeping capacity over under-bed functionality. If sleeping two is the goal, a bunk bed delivers it more directly.
Vs other bunk beds in the range: The Kingsbury builds storage into the frame, with shelves along both bunks and an under-bed drawer, so there is less need for extra furniture in the room. Simpler single-over-single bunk beds without storage are typically lower in price, while triple sleepers with a small double lower bunk sleep three. If you want two sleeping spaces with plenty of built-in storage and an optional mattress bundle, the Kingsbury covers it all in one frame.
Mattresses are not included with the Kingsbury. Two standard UK single mattresses (90 x 190cm) are required - one for each bunk. The maximum mattress depth for the top bunk is 18cm; any single mattress under this depth is compatible with both bunks. If you would prefer a matched recommendation, the following mattress has been selected to work with this bed, and a pair can be added at checkout.
Capsule Reflex Mattress
The Kingsbury gives two children their own full-length sleeping space, with built-in shelves along both bunks, an under-bed drawer and an angled ladder with cut-out handles and glow-in-the-dark strips that make night-time trips safer without waking the whole room. Finished in a warm grey oak effect, it is a practical, storage-packed choice for a shared bedroom. An optional bundle of two Capsule Reflex mattresses is available at checkout.
