Product Overview

The Kingsbury is a single-over-single bunk bed from Land of Beds, made from chipboard in a white finish, with built-in shelves along both bunks and an under-bed storage drawer. The angled ladder has cut-out handles and glow-in-the-dark strips on the steps, and the lower bunk sits close to the floor for younger children. Both bunks use a wooden slatted base and accept a standard UK single mattress up to 18cm deep. Mattresses are not included, but two Capsule Reflex mattresses can be added at checkout.

Who Is This Bunk Bed For?

The Kingsbury from Land of Beds is a white chipboard single-over-single bunk bed with built-in shelves along both bunks, an under-bed drawer and an angled ladder with glow-in-the-dark strips, designed for two children sharing a room, with an optional mattress bundle available at checkout.

Best for

  • Two children sharing a room - the single-over-single configuration gives each child their own full-length sleeping space
  • Children's rooms with limited storage - the built-in shelves and under-bed drawer make the most of the space the bed occupies
  • Parents who want reassurance on top bunk safety - the guard rails on the top bunk and glow-in-the-dark ladder strips address the two most common safety concerns
  • Families who want everything ready to go - the optional mattress bundle adds two Capsule Reflex mattresses that sit within the 18cm top bunk depth limit
  • Sleepers up to 76kg (12st) on the top bunk and 76kg (12st) on the lower bunk

Not ideal for

  • Children under 6 years old - the top bunk is not recommended for children under 6. The lower bunk only is suitable for younger children.
  • Those who need a thick mattress on the top bunk - the maximum mattress depth for the top bunk is 18cm; mattresses deeper than this reduce the effective guard rail height. Check before ordering.
  • Those who want to split the bunk into two single beds - the Kingsbury cannot be separated into two single beds.

Worth Knowing

  • Safety note: the top bunk is not recommended for children under 6 years old. The guard rails are designed to work with a mattress up to 18cm deep - do not use a mattress deeper than this on the top bunk.
  • Mattresses are not included. Two standard UK single mattresses (90 x 190cm) are needed, each no deeper than 18cm. An optional mattress bundle can be added at checkout - see the Complete Your Sleep Set-Up section below.
  • This bunk bed arrives flat packed in 4 boxes and requires approximately 45 minutes to assemble with two people. Professional assembly is not available for bunk beds.
  • The lower bunk is positioned close to the floor, making it easier to get in and out of bed for younger children.
  • The Kingsbury can be taken down and reassembled if needed - keep the instructions for future reference.

Inside This Bunk Bed

Chipboard Frame
What it is: A bunk bed frame made from chipboard in a white finish, with panelled sides and end boards.
How it helps you: The smooth panelled finish is easy to wipe clean, and the white finish creates a clean, bright look that suits a variety of bedroom styles.

Wooden Slatted Base
What it is: A slatted wooden base supporting the mattress on each bunk.
How it helps you: Allows air to circulate beneath the mattress, helping it breathe for a more comfortable sleep.

Ladder with Cut-Out Handles
What it is: A fixed, angled ladder with shaped cut-out grip handles and wide, flat steps.
How it helps you: Makes climbing up and down safer and easier, especially for children, and the angled design with wide steps is easier to climb than a vertical ladder.

Glow-in-the-Dark Ladder Strips
What it is: Stick-on glow-in-the-dark strips applied to the ladder steps.
How it helps you: Helps children locate the ladder safely in the dark without turning on the main light and disturbing anyone else in the room.

Top Bunk Guard Rails
What it is: A panelled guard rail along the open side of the top bunk with cut-out hand grips, with an opening beside the ladder, and a high shelving panel along the wall side.
How it helps you: Helps prevent the sleeper from rolling out during the night - the rails are designed to be used with a mattress no deeper than 18cm, which keeps the effective rail height within the safety specification.

Built-In Shelves
What it is: Shelves integrated into the frame, running along the wall side of both the top and bottom bunks.
How it helps you: Keeps books, toys, and bedtime essentials within easy reach without needing extra furniture.

Under-Bed Storage Drawer
What it is: A pull-out drawer built into the base beneath the lower bunk.
How it helps you: Makes use of the space beneath the lower bunk for spare bedding, clothes or toys, keeping the rest of the room clearer.

How it Compares

Vs mid sleepers: A mid sleeper has an elevated single bunk with usable space beneath - usually a desk, pull-out bed, or storage - but sleeps only one child. A bunk bed sleeps two in a similar vertical footprint. If you need to sleep two children in one room, a bunk bed is the more space-efficient choice. If you need a workstation or play area beneath the bed for one child, a mid sleeper is the better fit.

Vs high sleepers: A high sleeper raises a single bed to a greater height than a mid sleeper, with a full workstation, sofa, or wardrobe underneath. It sleeps one child and suits teenagers who want a dedicated study or lounge space. A bunk bed prioritises sleeping capacity over under-bed functionality. If sleeping two is the goal, a bunk bed delivers it more directly.

Vs other bunk beds in the range: The Kingsbury builds storage into the frame, with shelves along both bunks and an under-bed drawer, so there is less need for extra furniture in the room. Simpler single-over-single bunk beds without storage are typically lower in price, while triple sleepers with a small double lower bunk sleep three. If you want two sleeping spaces with plenty of built-in storage and an optional mattress bundle, the Kingsbury covers it all in one frame.

Complete Your Sleep Set-Up

Mattresses are not included with the Kingsbury. Two standard UK single mattresses (90 x 190cm) are required - one for each bunk. The maximum mattress depth for the top bunk is 18cm; any single mattress under this depth is compatible with both bunks. If you would prefer a matched recommendation, the following mattress has been selected to work with this bed, and a pair can be added at checkout.

Capsule Reflex Mattress

  • Medium (3/6) feel - suits side, back, front and combination sleepers, balancing comfort and support for growing children
  • Foam construction - gives consistent, even support across the whole sleeping surface
  • Reflex foam - compresses under pressure and springs back to shape, giving hypoallergenic, pressure-relieving support that helps minimise tossing and turning
  • Breathable Tencel cover - naturally moisture-wicking and temperature-regulating, helping to keep your child cool and fresh through the night
  • Easy care - no need to turn, though regular head-to-toe rotation will help extend the mattress's lifespan
  • 12.5cm deep - at 12.5cm deep, this mattress is within the 18cm top bunk limit and is suitable for both bunks
  • Made in the UK

Ready to Set Up the Room?

The Kingsbury gives two children their own full-length sleeping space, with built-in shelves along both bunks, an under-bed drawer and an angled ladder with cut-out handles and glow-in-the-dark strips that make night-time trips safer without waking the whole room. Finished in a clean, bright white, it is a practical, storage-packed choice for a shared bedroom. An optional bundle of two Capsule Reflex mattresses is available at checkout.
