Product Overview

The Arden is a wooden guest bed from Land of Beds, made from rubberwood in a honey pine finish with a Shaker-style headboard. A full-size trundle stored beneath the main bed rolls out on castors and lifts to the same height on folding legs, giving the choice of a single bed, a double-width bed or two separate singles. Both the main bed and the trundle have a wooden slatted base and take a standard UK single mattress, with a maximum trundle mattress depth of 15cm. Mattresses are not included, but one or two Nimbus mattresses can be added.

Who Is This Guest Bed For?

The Land of Beds Arden is a honey pine finish rubberwood guest bed with a Shaker-style headboard and a full-size trundle that lifts to main bed height on folding legs, for use as a single, double or twin sleeping configuration, with an optional Nimbus mattress bundle available at checkout.

Best for

  • Spare rooms that need to sleep one person day-to-day and two occasionally - the trundle stores neatly beneath the main bed until it is needed
  • Those who want two equal full-size beds - both the main bed and the trundle take a standard 90 x 190cm single mattress, so each guest gets the same sleeping space
  • Those who need side-by-side sleeping on the same level - the trundle raises to main bed height, giving a combined sleeping width of approximately 180cm
  • Families hosting sleepovers - the trundle rolls out on castors when friends stay over and tucks away again afterwards
  • Rooms with a warm, natural look - the honey pine finish and clean Shaker lines suit a wide range of bedroom styles

Not ideal for

  • Those who need a double bed as a permanent sleeping solution - the main bed is a single; the double configuration requires both beds to be set up together and is designed for occasional guest use
  • Those expecting a full-length super king - with the trundle raised, the combined sleeping width matches a super king, but the mattresses are 190cm long rather than the standard 200cm
  • Those using a thicker mattress on the trundle - the maximum trundle mattress depth is 15cm; a deeper mattress will not slide back beneath the main bed

Worth Knowing

  • Mattresses are not included. Two standard UK single mattresses (90 x 190cm) are needed - one for the main bed and one for the trundle. The optional Nimbus mattress is 10.5cm deep and suits both beds - see the Complete Your Sleep Set-Up section below.
  • The trundle rolls out on castors and lifts on folding legs to the same height as the main bed, creating a double-width sleeping surface or two side-by-side singles. When fully set up, the trundle stands 42cm high, level with the main bed. When not in use, it stores neatly beneath the main bed.
  • The trundle requires a mattress with a maximum depth of 15cm - a deeper mattress will not slide back beneath the main bed when stored.
  • Both the main bed and the trundle have a wooden slatted base, with 8.5cm between slats.
  • This guest bed arrives flat packed in 2 boxes and requires approximately 45 minutes with two people to assemble. Professional assembly is not available for guest beds.
  • The Arden can be taken down and reassembled if needed - keep the instructions for future reference.

Inside This Guest Bed

Rubberwood Frame
What it is: A guest bed frame made from rubberwood in a honey pine finish, with a Shaker-style headboard of vertical slats and a low foot end.
How it helps you: Rubberwood gives the frame a sturdy, durable structure, and the warm honey pine finish and clean Shaker lines suit a wide range of bedroom styles.

Wooden Slatted Base
What it is: A slatted wooden base supporting the mattress on both the main bed and the trundle, with 8.5cm between slats.
How it helps you: Allows air to circulate beneath the mattress, helping it breathe for a more comfortable sleep.

Pull-Out Trundle with Lift Mechanism
What it is: A full-size second bed stored beneath the main frame on castors, which rolls out and lifts on folding legs to the same height as the main bed.
How it helps you: Gives three sleeping options in a single footprint - keep it stored as a single, raise it alongside to create a double-width bed, or push the two beds apart to use as two individual singles.

How it Compares

Vs standard single bed frames: A standard single bed frame gives one sleeping surface and nothing else. A guest bed gives a single bed as its primary function but stores a second sleeping surface underneath, available whenever guests need it. If the room only ever needs to sleep one person, a standard bed frame is simpler, lower in profile, and usually less expensive. If occasional two-person sleeping is needed, a guest bed removes the need for a second bed or a sofa bed entirely.

Vs sofa beds: A sofa bed converts between a sofa and a full sleeping surface, typically opening to a double or larger size. It suits living rooms or rooms where the seating function matters as much as the sleeping function. A guest bed looks like a bed and stays in a bedroom - it does not have a sofa configuration. The trundle provides a second sleeping surface without requiring the room to have a sofa. If you need furniture that acts as a sofa during the day, a sofa bed is the right choice. If you have a spare bedroom and need it to sleep two without having two full beds, a guest bed works well.

Vs other guest beds in the range: The Arden is the lighter, frame-style option - a honey pine finish rubberwood frame with a wooden slatted base on both beds, sold without mattresses so you can choose your own or add the Nimbus bundle. Upholstered divan guest beds usually include mattresses and suit rooms where a softer look is wanted, while guest beds with a smaller trundle are more compact but give a narrower second bed.

Complete Your Sleep Set-Up

Mattresses are not included with the Arden. Two standard UK single mattresses (90 x 190cm) are required - one for the main bed and one for the trundle. The maximum mattress depth for the trundle is 15cm. If you would prefer a matched recommendation, the following mattress has been selected to work with this bed, and one or two can be added at checkout.

Nimbus Mattress

  • Medium (3/6) feel - suits side, back, front and combination sleepers, balancing comfort and support
  • Foam construction - lightweight and easy to handle, making it simple to move between the bed and the trundle
  • Memory foam - shapes to the contours of the body and springs back when pressure is released, relieving pressure and supporting spinal alignment
  • Soft reflex foam - adds an extra layer of support and softness for deep comfort all night long
  • Soft quilted cover - gives soft cushioning and an even, comfortable sleeping surface
  • Rolled and vacuum packed - easy to carry upstairs and through tight spaces, and ready to use around two hours after unpacking
  • 10.5cm deep - at 10.5cm deep, this mattress is within the 15cm trundle limit and is suitable for both beds
  • 10 year warranty on the Nimbus mattress for peace of mind

Ready to Make Your Space Work Harder?

The Arden turns a single spare bedroom into a space that can sleep two overnight guests - the full-size trundle stores neatly beneath the main bed and lifts to the same height in moments. With a honey pine finish rubberwood frame, a Shaker-style headboard and a wooden slatted base on both beds, it is a warm, practical guest bed for any room. An optional bundle of one or two Nimbus mattresses is available at checkout.
