Worth Knowing
Platform Top Base
What it is: A solid wooden platform upholstered in fabric, covering the full area of the base.
How it helps you: Provides a firm, even surface that supports the mattress consistently across its full area, without any flex or variation - useful for memory foam and latex mattresses that benefit from a stable, unmoving base.
Drawer Storage
What it is: Hard-wearing laminate drawers on smooth-running runners, available as 2 drawers on the left or right hand side on the Single, and as 2 full size drawers, 4 full size drawers or 2+2 Continental Drawers (a full size drawer and a smaller drawer on each side) on Small Double sizes and above.
How it helps you: Drawers provide organised, easily accessible storage for bedding, clothing or seasonal items, with a 9kg weight limit per drawer. The 2+2 Continental Drawers option allows the head-end drawers to open even when a bedside table sits alongside the bed.
Silver Glides
What it is: Silver glides are fitted to the base of the bed in place of castors.
How it helps you: Allow smooth movement, protect your floors, and add a polished modern touch to the bed's design.
FSC Certified Timber
What it is: The timber used to build the base frame is certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC).
How it helps you: Gives you confidence that the wood in your base has come from responsibly managed forests, without compromising on strength or durability.

Vs buying a complete divan set: A full divan set includes both the base and a matched mattress, chosen and tested to work together. A bed base alone is the better choice when you already have a mattress you want to keep, when you want to choose base and mattress from different brands, or when you are replacing a base that has worn out while the mattress remains in good condition. If you are buying both together and want a single coordinated purchase, a divan set removes the guesswork of pairing separately.
Vs a platform top vs a sprung base: Platform top bases provide a firm, flat surface and are compatible with all mattress types including memory foam, latex, and pocket sprung. A Firm Edge Pocket Sprung base adds a layer of spring response from the base itself, which can extend the life of the mattress by absorbing part of the daily load. If you sleep on a heavier or deeper mattress, or if your current mattress is already quite soft, a sprung base may improve both comfort and longevity. If you prefer a firm feel or sleep on a memory foam or latex mattress, a platform top is the right choice.
Vs other bases in the range: Compared with entry-level bases with a 1 year guarantee, this base adds FSC certified timber, NBF approval and an 8 year guarantee from a long-established British bed maker. Premium bases with padded tops, pocket sprung firm edges or solid timber drawers offer a more luxurious specification and longer guarantees, but at a higher price - this base is the straightforward, value-focused platform top option. If you need far more storage than drawers can offer, an ottoman base gives access to the full under-base cavity, while a lower-height base suits deeper mattresses or a more contemporary, low-profile look.
The Relyon Standard Height Bed Base is backed by Relyon's 8 year guarantee against defects in materials and workmanship. An 8 year guarantee on a divan base is a strong signal of confidence in the build quality - and for a base you may keep through more than one mattress, long-term structural integrity matters.
National Bed Federation (NBF) Approved - Independently verified to meet strict UK standards for quality, safety and responsible manufacturing.
FSC Certified - Independently certified confirmation that the timber used in this base has been sourced from responsibly managed forests.
Manufacturing Guild Mark - Relyon was the first bed manufacturer to be awarded the Manufacturing Guild Mark, an industry award recognising dedication to quality, craftsmanship and durability.
The Relyon Standard Height Bed Base gives you a firm, dependable platform top base with a choice of drawer storage and a wide selection of fabrics - a straightforward replacement or upgrade that works with any existing standard UK mattress. Handcrafted in the UK from FSC certified timber and backed by an 8 year guarantee, it is a base built to last.
